Do The Ends Justify The Means?
Never in our country’s history has anything like this EVER been attempted and never have we had the incredible response we are seeing (the Congressional switchboard can handle 50,000 calls per hour; they were at well over 100,000 yesterday and even more today and are thus overwhelmed)-the vast majority of it against this bill. We saw a similar turn of events-although not as large-with the “stimulus bill” (that has thus failed to stimulate anything but our deficit despite what we were promised) and yet, they still voted for that. Will our outpouring of calls, emails, faxes and letters similarly fall on deaf ears?
Why won’t the Democrats listen to us? The “Washington knows best” mentality is not simply some Republican “talking point” as I have heard it said. Rather, it is exactly what is happening. The Democrats (I am not trying to be partisan here but this is a straight party thing) are looking at the same polling numbers we are all seeing-most Americans do not want this-end of story. Yet, in their “infinite wisdom” they are pushing it through anyway. Clearly, they must know better than the rest of the country, right?
Most Americans ARE in favor of medical reform-100% in favor-just NOT THIS VERSION!!!! The President framed it in his interview with Brett Bair-those voting in favor of this bill are in favor of health reform and those not voting in favor are against health reform-SIMPLY NOT TRUE!!! Again, we just don’t like or want THEIR VERSION of it.
The President, Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reed have all stated at one time or another that they ultimately want a single payer system-like Canada. Think about it. How long do you honestly think it will take for people to realize it is a lot cheaper to pay the $750 fine this bill will impose should you not have your own insurance rather than paying for the insurance AND the new taxes levied on your premiums? In the bill is a provision that the insurance companies cannot turn you away. So, why pay for insurance until you really need it? Very quickly the pool of uninsured will skyrocket, the existing pool of insured people will become sicker and sicker, and the cost of their insurance will become higher and higher, until eventually the insurance companies are all out of business and only Uncle Sam remains to “take care” of everyone- end result is a single payer system like they wanted in the first place.
I consider myself an open minded person and I try to be a well informed person. Even if you are a true believer and believe everything President Obama, Robert Gibbs, Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reed say, how can you possibly think all the arm twisting, shady and seedy deals, intimidation, bullying and legally questionable tactics are ok? Even if you believe by passing this bill, we will magically provide insurance to every human being living in the U.S. (note illegals included here) and do so at a savings (huh?), bring down the deficit, encourage people to go to medical school and study and work hard to make less money, curb the lawsuits that are a drag on our economy and the medical field, continue to lead the world in innovation, etc…How can you agree with these tactics? Especially when the “rule” they are considering violates the Constitution-certainly in spirit and almost definitely in language and execution.
Ask yourself the following…
1) if the bill is so good why won’t Congress make it applicable to themselves?
2) if the bill is so good why do they need to twist arms, make shady and sleazy deals, etc… to get THEIR OWN PARTY MEMBERS to support it?
3) why do we need to pass it in a hurry up fashion when most of it doesn’t go into effect until 2014 anyway?
4) Where is the 5 days on-line prior to a vote as promised-yes PROMISED- by then candidate Obama so “every American can read it and know what’s in it”?
5) Do the numbers they keep putting out there make any sense at all?
6) Are you in favor of the massive tax increases that are in this bill to pay for this? (keep in mind the new taxes being proposed VIOLATE President Obama’s REPEATED PROMISE to not raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 in at least 12 ways)
7) Do you want your health benefits taxed for the first time in history so your healthcare premiums will be treated as income (President Obama RAN AGAINST THIS specific thing in his campaign and has now pulled a 180)?
8 ) Are you in favor of a massive expansion of the IRS as this bill specifies?
9) Do you believe that the majority of states (37 so far) who have now filed lawsuits or have given notice that they will file lawsuits should this pass are incorrect in challenging the very Constitutionality of this bill?
10) And finally do you think we should force everyone to purchase insurance? Is that legal? Is that fair?
Do you truly believe the ends justify the means?
